THE undermanned San Fabian Police Station will seek the community’s support to help keep peace and order in the town, particularly to deter robbery during the rainy season.

P/ Chief Inspector Arvin Jacob, town police chief, said he hopes Mayor Constante Agbayani will approve the station’s proposal to launch and implement Project Lighthouse that will activate civic organizations and barangay officials to help patrol their respective communities at night.

“Our records show robbery cases increase during rainy season, when more people have no means of income and they take advantage of tendency of residents to sleep soundly at night,” Jacob said in the vernacular.

He said the town police only has 50 personnel to guard 80,000 population in 34 barangays, upland to shoreline.

He added Project Lighthouse will also be effective in deterring illegal drug activities at night.

Meanwhile, Jacob said 32 out of 34 barangays here are already cleared of illegal drug activities and he expects the remaining two barangays to be cleared soon after their status is validated by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Dangerous Drugs Board.

So far, 702 self-confessed drug users and pushers have surrendered and are all scheduled to take the community-based drug rehabilitation program of the Municipal Anti Drug Abuse Council. (Nora Dominguez)
