“PIKEWET” (It is skewed)

This was sharp retort of Dagupan City Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo to the proposal of opposition Councilor Redford Erfe Mejia to amend the former’s draft resolution seeking to extend for another three weeks the signing and acceptance by the city mayor of a 1.2 hectare donated land at Pantal-Lucao area as site of the new city hall.

Tamayo and Erfe Mejia clashed anew during the special session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) at CSI Stadia, for the second State of the City Address (SOCA) of Mayor Belen Fernandez.

The draft ordinance filed by Tamayo seeks to give other property owners along the Pantal-Lucao area another three weeks to also donate part of their properties as alternative site for the new city hall to match the 1.2-hectare lot donated by Kerwin and Mary Ann Fernandez.

Erfe Mejia opposed the measure and sought to amend it by including donations in other new growth centers, namely Bonuan and the and the Caranglaan-Tebeng areas.

When Tamayo rejected Erfe-Mejia’s proposed amendment who described the latter’s proposal as “pikewet” Councilor Jeslito Seen who presided the session in lieu of place of Vice Mayor Brian Lim who was absent, put the Tamayo’s resolution to a vote. The measure was carried.

Tamayo clarified the three-week extension, which started July 17, is in addition to the 10-day extension initially sought by Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Tamayo said “…the extension is necessary because there could still be other property owners along the Pantal-Lucao area who may be also contemplating to donate their lands for the city hall.”

The other property owners include members of the Filipino-Chinese community like Mariano Lim Lyguana, the Dees, Lis, Charlie Ngo, and Dys as well as the Rayoses and Ramoses. (Leonardo Micua)
