FOR seven days, the Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran stood by their sworn duties as “manlingkor” to render public services in the different public schools and barangays in tandem with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

Led by young City Mayor Jilian Kay Madison S. Fernandez (Pangasinan Universal Institute) and young City Vice Mayor Marla Andreyana M. Ober (Dagupan City National High School), the young city officials conducted story telling sessions with the preparatory pupils and Grades 1 and 2 pupils of Bonuan Boquig Elementary School, Gregorio del Pilar Elementary School, Caranglaan Elementary School and Salapingao Elementary School.

The MYKs also distributed school bags and school supplies to the pupils who were also served with free hot” misua”.

They also assisted Mayor Fernandez in the turn over of rescue boat and equipment to Salapingao Barangay Chairman Delfin De Guzman.

“Soon we will be distributing some 1,000 life vests to every passenger of motor boats coming from Salapingao. The budget was already approved by the Development Council and once approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, procurement will be done immediately,” said Fernandez.

In celebrating the day of Saint John the Baptist, the MYKs joined Mayor Fernandez in the city’s ‘Paligo’ program in barangays Calmay, Carael, and Bonuan Gueset where 1,700 were given free baths.

“I want our young leaders to lead by example, caring and helping others. I want them to be part of what I’m doing. So they will understand a mayor’s job, which is caring for our children,” said Fernandez.

On June 28 the city received its third Most Child Friendly award in the region, an affirmation of the city’s commitment of caring for the welfare of the children in the city.

Fernandez lauded the passion of the MYKs in caring with their child friendly approach as they went around the public schools and the barangays.

“Jilian, our young city mayor, herself helped a boy fix his bag as he was having a hard time fixing it,” said Fernandez.

Fernandez expressed her desire to see more young people experience the same in the future when they join the Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran.

“How I wish to have more children to work with us and gain experience with us at the LGU. We must prepare their future today,” said Fernandez.
