WAR ON DRUGS

THE Dagupan City Police Station has begun re-evaluating status of the 28 previously drug-affected and subsequently cleared barangays to ensure that there’s no resurgence in the illegal drug trade in the city.

P/Superintendent Franklin Ortiz, Dagupan police chief, said the policy of PNP is to continuously monitor and re-evaluate all barangays, particularly, those that were determined earlier as affected by illegal drugs.

A barangay is deemed affected if there are known pushers and users in the community.

The latest status of the city in the campaign against illegal drugs remains at 28 barangays as drug-cleared while three (Barangays Calmay, Pugaro and Barangay 2 and 3) remain drug-affected.

Being closely monitored today are activities in Sitio Silungan in Barangay Binloc and Sitio Aling in Barangay Pantal, both known to be hotspots in city, because of recent reports that some pushers and users have resurfaced.

The campaign to eradicate illegal drugs in the city remains a challenge to reach its objective to clear the whole city as drug cleared in the nearest future.

Ortiz said several arrests have already been made in the city.

“The drug personalities in two barangays may have just moved to other areas in the city so we have to continuously monitor activities in the city,” he said. (Nora Dominguez)
