LINGAYEN — The provincial board has sought tighter security at the premises of the provincial capitol and all 14 public hospitals being operated by the province to forestall any terroristic attack.

The board was dismayed, however, when told that the 180 Provincial Security Guard (PSG) of the province have no firearm, no communications equipment and no training and who are largely unaware of their duties and responsibilities.

Fourth District Board Member Rosario conceded that the ill-equipped and untrained provincial security guards will not be able to protect the officials and employees in case of any terrorist attack in the capitol and in any of the government hospitals.

In view of the situation, Rosario said the board should require for a police detail to secure the provincial capitol during office hours daily and to train the provincial security guards.

The 180-man PSG is under the General Service Office (GSO) headed by Ms. Eva Gladish Domalanta. The guards are placed directly under retired P/Inspector Alejandro Romero. security supervisor.

Of this number, 80 are assigned at the provincial capitol and 100 are scattered in all the 14 public hospitals operated by the province.

Rosario said he will propose that the Provincial Security Guards be organized as a separate unit or department, no longer under GSO which he said is already saddled with too much administrative responsibilities.

He also will propose the acquisition of hand guns and communications equipment including closed circuit television cameras and metal detectors to be installed in strategic areas inside the capitol compound. (Leonardo Micua)
