PSU ready to extend 15,000 scholarships
THE Pangasinan State University (PSU) is ready to accept some 15,000 scholars when school year 2017 starts in August.
The new scholars will be limited to some students from indigent families who are unable to continue their schooling in college and out of school youths (OSY).
This was bared by PSU President Dexter Buted who said the university received a P152 million scholarship grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) for them.
He said with the P152 million grant, it will cover free miscellaneous and tuition fees of the indigent student.
Buted said barangays and DSWD will help PSU identify families particularly those enrolled in the 4Ps.
“We will see to it that only the less privileged students will enjoy free education by requiring them to submit income tax returns of their parents, a certification from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and from the local government that they really belong to less privileged families,” Buted said.
Buted said he will make the rounds of the barangays of Pangasinan soon in order to convince parents from the less privileged families to send their children to college to be able to benefit from the financial grant.
He advised high school graduates prior to the K-12 system to enroll this year because it they are not enrolled in college this year, they will be reverted to senior high school.
This is in accordance with the guidelines set by CHEd for the granting of free tuition fees for students in state colleges and universities. (Ding Micua/Nora Dominguez)
