PHO probes mass food poisoning in Calasiao
CALASIAO–The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has launched its investigation into the mass food poisoning of 33 pupils of the Nalsian- Bacayao Elementary School in Calasiao town on Thursday.
Provincial Health Officer Ana de Guzman said samples of the supposed contaminated chicken burger sandwich eaten by the pupils during their recess which they bought from a vendor outside their campus are already being examined.

The pupils were rushed to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in San Carlos City after suffering from nausea, severe stomach pains and vomiting shortly after eating the sandwich.
Initial report showed the sandwich was stuffed with entrails of chicken locally called “isaw” and mixed with little chicken liver.
De Guzman said of the 33 pupils who were brought to the PPH, 22 were still under medication as of Friday, June 16 but were expected to be released over the weekend.
She advised pupils not to buy street food outside their school but rather from their school canteens.
The street food vendors, she added, have no sanitary permits and therefore pose health risks to the school’s pupils.
At the same time, she ordered Calasiao Municipal Health Officer Jesus de Vera to check on quality of food items being sold by street vendors. (Leoanrdo Micua)
