“Papa Bear” urged for displaced Marawi kids
THE activation of the “Papa Bear” program that was cited by the Metrobank Foundation was recently sought for the benefit of the children in Marawi City traumatized by the ongoing war.
P/ Superintendent Ryan Manongdo, an awardee of Metrobank’s Country’s Outstanding Police in Service, and former police chief of Pozorrubio town, made the suggestion to give the displaced children now in evacuation centers stuffed toys to ease their trauma.
The same program is being adopted in Cebu province by the CPPO where he is presently the deputy provincial director for operations of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, headed also by another Pangasinense P/Sr. Superintendent Eric Noble as provincial director.
He said the program can help the children cope with the trauma and daily stress brought upon the children in the war-torn city.
In his FB account, Manongdo asked donors of toys to send these to P/Chief Insp. Llewellyn C. Datiles of the Cebu Police Regional Office 10 in Camp Alagar Lapasan in Cagayan de Oro City.
Manongdo said he introduced the Papa Bear program in Pozorrubio to help children who witnessed the abuse suffered by a mother or sister or have witnessed bloody incidents cope with the trauma.
Metrobank noted the Papa Bear program, among other programs he implemented when he was Pozorrubio police chief that made him clinch the coveted award.
“I am glad that officials in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao have echoed this call and started to solicit old toys as “trauma treatment” for displaced children from Marawi City.
ARMM Vice Gov. Haroun Al-Rashid Lucman said trauma therapists have recommended the distribution of toys to children now in cramped conditions at evacuation centers.
By donating toys, Manongdo said donors are actually extending the usefulness of their children’s toys by handing these to kids who need help instead of merely keeping these in cabinets and accumulate dusts. (Tita Roces)
