THE young legislators of the Manlingkor Ya Kalangweran (MYK) proposed and passed 21 resolutions during their joint regular session with members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Monday, June 19.

Young Councilor Dianne T. Prado of Mother Goose Special Science School Inc. (MGSSSI) authored Resolution No. R-5492 that requested the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the Task Force on Street Vulnerables to intensify efforts in reducing the incidence of vulnerable groups, i.e., the homeless, beggars, and street children, and to increase their welfare benefits.

She also authored No. R-5493 that requested all private and public schools in the city to set reasonable prices on food and school supplies sold in schools and asked the Department of Education further to monitor the same.

Young Councilor Harmond A. Santos Jr. of MGSSSI authored three resolutions: 1) No. R-5494 requested the City Health Office to extend the city health clinic hours to 24/7; 2) No. R-5498 requested the City Planning and Development Office to study the feasibility of having a free student transport system along the main roads of the city; and, 3) No. R-5495 requested the city mayor to establish a slaughterhouse in the city.

Young Vice Mayor Marla Andreyana M. Ober of the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS) authored two resolutions: 1) No. R-5496 (requesting the city mayor and the Department of Public Works and Highways to upgrade all drainages in the city as a flood mitigation strategy and to constantly monitor the same) and

DR No. R-5497 (requesting the city mayor to include self-defense training for the youth as one of the regular programs of the teen center).

Young Councilor Tiffany Rose C. Cusi of St. Albert the Great School Cusi authored Resolution No. R-5507 that requested the city mayor and the OIC Schools Division Superintendent to consider the provision of free school supplies and text books from Grade 1 to Grade 12 students in public schools.

Young Councilor Maricris L. Callanta of DCNHS authored Resolutions No. R-5505 (requesting the city schools division to repair broken school chairs and tables in public schools and to acquire new ones to replace the damaged ones that are beyond repair) and No. R-5506 (requesting the local school board of the city to consider the acquisition of cabinets and bookshelves per classroom in public schools).

Young Councilor Ashley Dannielle R. dela Cruz of Dominican School, authored Resolutions No. R-5500 requesting the city mayor to intensify the clearing operations against illegal sidewalk vendors and No. R-5501 requesting all punong barangays to strictly implement the curfew hours for children.

Young Councilor Joshua Resty V. Ulanday of University of Luzon authored Resolution No. R-5502, requesting the City Engineer’s Office and the Peace and Order and Safety Office to add more traffic signage especially along school zones.

Resolution No. R-5503, authored by Young Councilor Echea Kristen E. Domingo of St. John Cathedral School, requested the city mayor, through the Artikulo 21 Task Force, to intensify the campaign prohibiting the entry of minors in computer establishments during schools hours and to study the possibility of admitting exceptions to the said prohibition.

Resolution No. R-5504, requesting all schools, private and public, to provide computer facilities for students within the school premises and to ensure easy access to said facilities, was authored by Young Councilor Elyza Jane E. Paraan of Lyceum Northwestern University-FQD.

Young City Mayor Jilian Kay Madison S. Fernandez submitted Resolutions Nos. R-5508 (requesting all schools, private and public, to intensify the child protection policies especially against abusive teachers and requesting the city schools division through its OIC SDS, to announce student activities and opportunities in its website and to require all schools under its jurisdiction to post the same in its official bulletin board, respectively), and R-5509 (requesting the Dagupan City Sports Commission and all schools, private and public to provide benefits such as scholarship and allowances to school athletes who win won more than two gold medals; to establish another park in the city and further requesting all barangays, to establish a mini-park in their respective barangays; and to establish a PESO and human resource building to cater to the increasing needs of the people of the city for purposes of employment and promotion).

All resolutions were adopted by the council except for Draft Resolution No. R-5499, authored by Young Councilor Ed Ballesteros of East Central Integrated School, that requested all schools, public and private, to provide free Wi-Fi in their school premises.
