R1AA medalists invited to join tryouts for P’sinan Sports Academy

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Medalists of the recent Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet who hail from Pangasinan have been invited to join tryouts for their possible inclusion to the Pangasinan Sports Academy (PSA).
Provincial Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) executive officer Modesto Operania said that the tryouts which will be conducted soon shall determine the athletes who will fill the remaining 120 slots for the PSA.
Earlier, Governor Espino invited 29 Pangasinan athletes who bagged medals in the recent Palarong Pambansa to join the PSA.
Operania said that for PSA’s forthcoming opening, the PSDMC has identified 11 initial sporting events with the following quota of athletes who will be trained under the Pangasinan sports program. These include athletics (30), boxing (10), taekwondo (12), chess (10), swimming (15), arnis (12), badminton (16), table tennis (16), basketball (12), lawn tennis (8) and archery (8).
PSA will accommodate 149 athletes who will be trained to become new members of ‘Team Pangasinan’ , a group of young Pangasinenses who will represent Pangasinan in various sporting events like Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games.
In the last R1AA Meet 2017, four DepEd schools division in Pangasinan bagged the top four spots in the overall medal tally. Pangasinan II emerged over-all champion with 58 gold, 52 silver and 47 bronze medals. Dagupan City, Pangasinan I and Urdaneta City delegations followed in second, third and fourth spots, respectively. /Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca
