High incidence of HIV/AIDS reported
THREE CITIES IN PANGASINAN
THE cities of Dagupan, San Carlos and Urdaneta are among the cities that have reported the highest cases of human immunodeficiency syndrome or HIV/Aids in Pangasinan, making the province among the highest in the region.
To arrest the infection, a massive information dissemination and awareness campaign is now being undertaken by the regional office of the Department of Health (Department of Health) on HIV/Aids.
Based on the data of DOH RO1, 829 cases have already been reported in the region since 1986.
Francisco de Vera Jr., DOH regional program manager of Non-Communicable Diseases of DOH Region 1 said the massive information campaign came after the increase of the reported cases of HIV/ AIDS in the region.
Other cities that reported high incidence of cases are Laoag, Ilocos Norte and San Fernando, La Union.
De Vera said, DOH Region 1 is intensifying its campaign on safe sex especially among LGBT communities. (Nora Dominguez)
