Watch out for beach warning flags – PDRRMO
WATCH out for the warning flags being raised along Lingayen’s beach shore line. These save lives.
The call was made by Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in a bid to prevent drowning incidents in the beach.
Joven Solis of PDRRMO’s operations and warning unit, said warning flags are now in place along beach shore to alert the public to avoid hazards and risks to life in the beach area.
He pointed out the flag warnings by color: red means there is a high hazard or gale warning and/or rough current; yellow means medium hazard and light current; green means low hazard with smooth current, and purple means there are marine creatures like the jellyfish so the public can avoid hazards.
He said many continue to ignore the flags being raised as evidenced by the registered 64 cases of jellyfish sting.
Solis said there are still no episodes of drowning incidents in Lingayen Beach only 64 cases of jellyfish sting handled by Provincial Health Emergency Team.
Dr. Ana de Guzman, Provincial Health Officer, pointed out that while there are no known serious adverse effects of jelly fish sting once medical treatment is immediately applied, the life of the victim is at risk if not properly and immediately treated. (Nora Dominguez)
