Drug surrenderer shot dead, 5 drug pushers arrested

URDANETA CITY–A self-confessed drug user who surrendered at the onset of Double Barrel, was shot dead mid-evening on March 29 in front of his father-in-law’s house in Barangay Nancayasan here.

The victim was identified as Ogie Jacob, 35, also of Barangay Nancayasan.

Initial police investigation showed the unidentified suspect approached the victim on the pretext that he wanted to borrow a tire air pressure pump when the suspect suddenly drew a gun and shot Jacob twice in the body that caused the latter’s instantaneous death.

When his common law wife Elizabeth Rafanan, 38, rushed out on hearing the gunshots, she saw the suspect fleeing on board a motorcycle driven by another rider.

A dragnet operation for the fleeing suspects conducted by the Urdaneta City police up to the adjacent towns but the operatives failed to track them.

Meanwhile, two drug personalities were arrested on the same day when the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the police served search warrants in their respective houses in Calasiao and Bayambang towns.

The two were identified as Jerry Ang, 53, who is included in the Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) watch list in Calasiao; and Abraham Jimenez, 40, of Bayambang.

Three other persons were arrested by the PDEA and the police in separate buy-bust operations.

Arrested in a buy-bust operation in Basista town also on March 28 was Rodolfo Monderin, 38, alias “Onyok” while one Renato Delgado, a newly identified drug personality was arrested in another buy-bust in Sitio Mitura, Barangay San Vicente, Urdaneta City following a pot session.

Meanwhile, also arrested in a buy-bust operation by the Manaoag police and PDEA in Barangay Babasit, Manaoag was Marcelino Ferrer, 60.

All the suspects will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the anti-drugs law. (Leonardo Micua)
