DOUBLE BARREL RELOADED

DAGUPAN City Police renewed it’s campaign against illegal drugs with the help of religious sector and barangay officials.

P/Superintendent Neil Miro, city police chief said, the illegal drugs campaign in the city has been activated with the Double Barrel Reloaded under the new guidelines requiring the involvement of the religious sector and barangay officials.

“The invitation to the two sectors will be extended to help us not only to eliminate the drug problem in the city but to help prevent violence that risks the lives of both the operatives and the suspects,” Miro said.

He said the presence of the religious representatives and barangay officials will help minimize tension between the police and the suspects, since they can help explain the process to avoid any misunderstanding about the process.

Meanwhile, the city police are closely monitoring the three previous hotspot areas that were cleared of illegal drugs earlier, namely Sitio Aling, Tondaligan and Silungan, to ensure that trading of illegal drugs will resurface in the communities.

Barangays Pugaro, Barangay Dos, Tres and the old Pantranco terminal are also being closely monitored because of reports that some drug personalities are operating in those areas.

Miro said the anti-illegal gambling campaign in the city has intensified with the help of the Masa Masid of the DILG.

He clarified that the police will allow controlled gambling activities in barangays if the purpose is for fund-raising, for charity or barangay projects, or barangay fiesta and only for a specified limited period. He, however, expressly prohibited the use of  drop ball, tupada and hataw.

Miro said there is no jueteng operation in the city. The Small Town Lottery franchise from the PCSO has been issued a business permit. (Nora Dominguez)
