THE inmates at the Pangasinan Provincial Jail (PPJ) in Lingayen town had a taste of the Double Barrel Reloaded campaign against illegal drugs last Wednesday

Joint operatives of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, together with PDEA Region 1 and Lingayen Police Station swooped down on the jail facility to conduct Oplan Greyhound.

The raiding team did a thorough search of cells and to the satisfaction of Provincial Warden Ferdinand Natividad, no drugs were found.

But the raiding team confiscated metal spoon and fork, cell phones and chargers which are prohibited inside the detention cells.

Nestor dela Cruz, commander of Selda Provinciales, said, at around 8 a.m. March 15, the jail officers ordered all the 606 inmates to assemble outside their detention cell for a head count and locked them out.

The 606 inmates were surprised when heavily armed troops of SWAT suddenly entered their cells with PDEA and Lingayen police operatives in tow and began the search in detention cells of Brigada 1, Brigada 2, Provinciales, Tower, including detention cell of female inmates.

Provincial Warden Ferdinand Natividad said, “Oplan Greyhound is in connection with the no-tolerance policy of illegal drugs being implemented inside PPJ. This is in support of the program of the present administration’s war on illegal drugs.”

Gov. Amado Espino III had requested for Oplan Galugad to confirm that no illegal drugs and contrabands are inside PPJ.

Dela Cruz had this to say: “Nakakatulong po sa amin na mga inmates itong galugad upang matiyak na hindi nakakapasok ang mga ipinagbabawal na gamot, kung may batas sa labas, mayroon din pong batas dito sa loob tulad ng mga disciplinary action sa mga lumalabag sa mga batas dito sa loob.”  (Nora Dominguez)
