WAR ON DRUGS

THE elements of Mangatarem Police Station is strictly monitoring the border of Pangasinan and Tarlac highways to closely monitor all illegal activities including transactions of illegal drugs.

P/Chief Inspector Demosthenes Magnaan, acting-police chief said, they are strictly implementing border control through law enforcement coordination and cooperation, intelligence build-up and monitoring and validation with police units in San Clemente town in Tarlac.

Magnaan said the potential of Mangatarem as another transient point for illegal drugs cannot be ignored based on the monitoring of the drug trade in Region 3.

He said it has become imperative for the PNP to intensify its surveillance and monitoring by units in the area.

With the launching of Double Barrel Reloaded, Magnaan said the Mangatarem Police Station already expanded its established protocol by inviting a representative from the religious sector in implementing Oplan Tokhang.

The town’s police operatives, he said, are constantly reminded to keep Oplan Tokhang peaceful as much as possible unless their lives are threatened bodily by drug suspects as directed by Chief PNP Ronald Bato dela Rosa.

“We will enforce R.A 9165 with the view to protect life,” Magnaan said.

Mangatarem has 82 barangays and 72% are already cleared from drugs.

This week, he said four to five Barangays are set to be cleared.

In the campaign against illegal gambling, Magnaan said, “there is no jueteng in the town and the off-fronton jai-alai operation in the city has been issued a permit.

He acknowledged that the most common gambling in the town are card games among tricycle drivers and vendors and they are constantly warned of being arrested. (Nora Dominguez)
