THIS year’s fire prevention month kicked-off in Dagupan City with a fun run and a program at the city plaza last March 7 with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Deputy Chief for Administration, F/Chief Supt. Leonard R. Bañago as guest of honor and speaker.

He was joined by BFP Region 1 Director, F/Sr. Supt. Lilibeth Q. Simangan, DILG City Director Rhoderick Dawis and Pogo Chico Punong Barangay Dean Bryan L. Kua, who represented Mayor Belen T. Fernandez.

Bañago said the theme “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagaan, Ibayong Pag-iingat ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan” underscores the fact that fire prevention should start in every household.

Bañago disclosed that based on their statistics the most common victims of fire are those in the residential areas and the most common reason was due to overloaded electrical connections.

“Octopus connections are overloading electrical connections that can cause short circuit and fire.” said Bañago.

City Fire Marshal Senior Inspector Romie J. Tungpalan said other activities for the Fire Prevention Month include poster-making contest, drawing contest, open house, fire drill and fire Olympics. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
