Carrera conquers Mapandan cycling
TOUR veteran and international rider San Fabian native Sherwin Carrera slowly but surely revitalized his rusty legs to win the 2017 Mayor Tambaoan Cycling Challenge.
It was a close duel at the finish between Carrera and his breakaway partner Manaoag-son Ericson Obosa on March 17 to claim the top prize of P4,000.
The duo clocked the scorching 108-kilometer flat course amateur- ex professional category in two hours, 48 minutes and 36 seconds with Obosa pocketing P3,000.
Rider Aidan Jan Mendoza of San Manuel town outsprinted the second pack to land third worth P2,000 while lone Calasiao entry Jason Commandante finished fourth and Jinggo Tabayoyong of Laoac landed fifth.
Rounding up the top 10 were: Richard Aquino (Mangaldan), Warren Bordeos (Laoac), Jesus Garcia (Sta. Maria), Efren Reyes (Dagupan City), Rene Esteban (San Fabian).
In the Master Division (40-and-above) 81-kilometer event, Jonathan Umipig (Urdaneta City) was the best from among the 32 contestants to bag the P2.5 top prize while Mon Nicolas (San Manuel) and Fernando Flores (Dagupan City) landing second and third worth P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.
In the top ten were: Hector Padilla (Urdaneta City), Richard Seismondo (Sto. Tomas), Toti Carpizo (Malasiqui), Noel Bumanlag (Dagupan City), Raffy Fernandez (Basista), David Jugo (San Fabian) Diony Aquino (Mangaldan).
All the top three winners in each category received trophy apiece while all the fourth to tenth placers received cash prizes and medal for every one.
The bikefest was organized and sponsored by the municipal government headed by Mayor Gerald Tambaoan in line with the celebration of its town fiesta. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
