PhilHealth set to provide detox package
FOR REHAB OF DRUG USERS
A MEDICAL detoxification package for drug dependents among PhilHealth members will soon be made available.
This was announced by Rodolfo del Rosario, PhilHealth vice president for Region 1, during the KBP Forum on the occasion of the 22ndanniversary of the agency.
He said PhilHealth shall offer a one-time P10,000 benefit to drug-affected members and their dependents found positive of shabu, cocaine, ecstasy or combination of the three.
However, if a drug dependent is not a card member, or a senior citizen or a member of the 4Ps, he or she may avail of detoxification through the PhilHealth’s Point of Care Program.
Del Rosario said the introduction of such package proves the Duterte administration’s determination to combat and finally end the drug problem in the country by providing opportunities for rehabilitation.
More than 19,000 drug users and pushers in Pangasinan have surrendered since President Duterte launched the war on drugs.
Being one of the priority projects of the Duterte administration, this package is set to be implemented soonest as its guidelines are expected to be out before the end of February or the longest will be during the month of March.
Dr. Jimuel Cardenas, chief of Local Health Support Division of the Department of Health in Region 1, said the package will cover two weeks to one month period of detoxification, a phase referred to as “wash out”.
An assessment of the progress on the effect of the detoxification will determine if the treatment should stop or continue as he added that the detoxification package must be served in rehab facilities accredited by PhilHealth.
Del Rosario said while the guidelines have not been issued, PhilHealth is now determining which health facilities in Pangasinan have the capability to address the detoxification of drug dependents.
In the same forum, Del Rosario announced that the health package for youth with hearing and eye defects and those who have problems in mental development will also be launched by PhilHealth soon. (Leonardo Micua/Tita Roces)
