URDANETA PNP’S MISSING 41 GUNS
THE janitor at the Urdaneta City Police Station earlier identified as one of the suspects behind the disappearance of 41 handguns from the station’s armory is now in police custody after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.
P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, acting provincial police director, said a case for robbery was filed against the suspect.
He added that cases will be filed soon against those responsible for the 41 missing firearms in Urdaneta City Police Station Special Investigating Task Group of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region completes is investigation.
Meanwhile, P/Supt. Marcelino Desamito, Urdaneta police chief, and nine other police personnel were relieved from their posts.
He said they were relieved “as a process of the investigation, to prevent them from influencing or interfering in the investigation to keep it impartial. The nine are presently under restricted custody at the PPPO while Desamito have been assigned to Task Force Water Lily at PRO1.
Lee added that he, too, will inhibit himself since Desamito was once his immediate subordinate when he headed the Anti-kidnapping Group.
He said restrictive custody or administrative relief is not considered equal punishment but part of the due process.
Lee said he believes more will be made to account for the missing guns. (Nora Dominguez)
