City to hold Bible Week yearly

AN ordinance was passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on January 18 declaring and celebrating every last week of January every year as the “City Bible Week”

In sponsoring the measure, Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo said the Holy Bible is the most powerful book that contains timeless principles, asserting that the bible’s message when heeded and obeyed, “can transform lives for the betterment of our beloved city.”

He said the multi-sectoral groups–all religious organizations, government as well as non-government organizations, medical and health institutions, business establishments, the academe and the media–believe and recognize the importance of God’s word in the life of the nation.

“The city council acknowledges the significance of God’s Word in national transformation and unity and supports the event even through local development funds, and enjoins as well all bible-believing organizations/churches in a week-long affair with activities to enhance the celebration,” Tamayo said.

The bible week every last week of January, which was also decreed by Presidential Proclamations of three Philippine presidents–Ferdinand Marcos, Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos– aims to encourage the citizenry in Dagupan to read and live with the words in the bible and consequently effect a national transformation in the Philippine society.
