LINGAYEN -Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas commended the Dagupan City government for putting up the Paseo de Belen, showing different nativity scenes created by different barangays, reminding the people of the birth of Jesus in a manger in the little town of Bethlehem more than 2,000 years ago.

In his homily during the last anticipated mass at 6:00 p.m. of December 24 at CSI Stadia, the prelate described the nativity scene as more meaningful and significant than images of Santa Claus, Christmas Trees and lanterns which all came about after the birth of Christ.

He said Christ’s birth is the most beautiful story ever told when Jesus, the son of  God, came to earth in human flesh to save the world.

Archbishop Villegas said the spirit  of Christmas is love, compassion, humility  and simplicity, all of  which symbolize Jesus.

He wished all his parishioners to savor the beauty and blessings of Christmas.

The prelate also said that this Christmas, every Filipino family is rejoicing, except perhaps the families of 6,200 victims of the war on drugs who are no longer around to share “noche buena” with their loved ones.

Nevertheless, he called on the people to overcome their fear and rejoice at the birth of Jesus.
