Public Health Key Players in P’sinan Recognized

THE provincial administration led by Governor Amado ‘Pogi’ I. Espino, III recognized the public health key players in Pangasinan during the 6th Provincial Health Summit held at the Sison Auditorium on December 6.

Governor Espino, along with Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, Department of Health Assistant Secretary and Regional Director Myrna Cabotaje and Provincial Health Officer Anna Maria Teresa De Guzman awarded trophies and cash incentives to best performing health partners of the provincial government for the calendar year 2015.

Bagging the top plum in the search for the best performing Local Government Unit (LGU) in Public Health Program implementation was LGU – Alcala, followed by LGU – Infanta (1st runner-up), LGU – Burgos (2nd runner-up) and LGU – San Quintin (3rd runner-up).

Receiving certificates of recognition as finalists were: Bolinao, Urbiztondo, Basista, Bautista and Sual LGUs.

Bayambang District Hospital received the championship trophy in the search for the Most-improved Inter-Local Health Zone (ILHZ). Urdaneta District Hospital landed in the 1st runner-up spot while the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital in San Carlos City placed 2nd runner-up.

The Western Pangasinan District Hospital (WPDH) in Alaminos City received the Hall of Fame award for being the three-peat champion in said search from 2012-2014.

Jessica Lim of WPDH was named most outstanding district nurse supervisor while Mary Grace Reyes of Sapa Pequena, Burgos was adjudged most outstanding provincial barangay nutrition scholar.

Governor Espino, in his speech delivered after the awarding ceremony, urged the health care development key players in the province to strengthen further public health programs to reach out Pangasinenses in barangays who need medical attention.

Assuring the commitment of the provincial government through the Provincial Health Office and all district and community hospitals run by the province in making Pangasinan “Home of the Healthiest Filipinos”, the governor sought the support of local chief executive and village chiefs “to empower Rural Health Units (RHUs) and barangay clinics to level up their capabilities in attending to the medical needs of people in the barangays.”

The provincial chief executive said that boosting the capabilities of LGU – managed RHUs and barangay clinics on public health care delivery is a strategy to assist community and district hospitals of the province in attending to basic health concerns of the public.

Governor Espino also led the awarding of 2015 LGU Scorecard, a monitoring and evaluation tool for equity and effectiveness of health indicators which also measures the level of performance of LGUs on local health care system.

Private partners of the provincial government in health governance and public health promotions were also recognized during the awarding ceremony.

The PHO Project Completion Report (Book 1 and 2) was turned over by Dr. De Guzman to DOH ASec. Cabotaje and Governor Espino. /MGNO
