Napolcom probes Urdaneta PNP
MISSING 40 FIREARMS
URDANETA CITY—The National Police Commission (Napolcom) office in Pangasinan has asked the Urdaneta City Police Station here to explain the reported missing 40 firearms under its custody.
Lawyer Edwin Mapili, Napolcom head here (also Napolcom’s assistant regional director), said he had written to P/Supt. Marceliano Desamito Jr, acting police chief, last December 16 to explain and submit his report within five days.
“I required him to submit a report concerning the information we received about the alleged missing equipment so we can start the investigation,” he said.
He said the letter to Desamito was upon the instruction of Napolcom Regional Director Evangeline Almirante, citing the command responsibility policy.
He said this is the first time that there are 40 or more missing firearms in a police station.
He said Napolcom investigates reported cases of missing firearms even just for one missing firearm.
Mapii said the investigation will determine if a probable cause exists for a summary hearing to determine liability of police officers involved.
The PUNCH tried and failed to reach Desamito for his comments. (Tita Roces)
