City’s traffic enforcers set to be deputized by LTO
TO DISCIPLINE MOTORISTS
TWENTY-one Public Order and Safety Office traffic enforcers of Dagupan were given an orientation in traffic enforcement from the the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Region 1 led by Regional Director Teofilo Guadiz Jr.
The seminar was conducted upon the request of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez in preparation for their being deputized by LTO in order to help instill order and discipline in the streets and improve flow of traffic in the city.
Fernandez said she sought the assistance of LTO after noting that motorists do not take the POSO enforcers seriously and it did not help instill discipline among the motorists.
She said she believes the imposition of a stiffer penalty as provided by national laws and being enforced by the LTO will help restore order in the city ‘s streets.
Guadiz said the seminar was timely because traffic enforcers need to be updated on new laws and regulations now being enforced by the LTO. He recalled that the last time his office conducted a seminar was eight years ago.
Once the traffic enforcers of the city are deputized by LTO, they will be authorized to issue traffic violation citations that impose higher penalties.
“We will issue them traffic tickets that they have to submit their issuance to the nearest LTO Office every two weeks for auditing,” said Guadiz.
Guadiz clarified that the deputation is good for three months which is renewable depending on the performance of the traffic enforcers.
On the first week after they are deputized, the traffic enforcers will be accompanied by an LTO enforcer for guidance before they will be left on their own, Guadiz said.
Meanwhile, Fernandez said the city’s traffic lights along Mayombo and Perez-Rizal junctions will be operational soon.
“We would like to bring our city back to its status as a first class city and we cannot achieve this if our traffic is a mess,” said Fernandez. (CIO/JCB)
