VP Robredo: 17 corporations to help Dagupan poor

SEVENTEEN corporations supporting the Angat Buhay Program of the Office of Vice President Leni Robredo are coming to Dagupan for the city’s poor, particularly children and senior citizens.

This was bared by Vice President Robredo when she arrived in the city last November 12 to launch three projects by two corporations and one mother civic club under the Angat Buhay.

Dagupan is among 50 local government units chosen as pilot areas for the Angat Buhay program.

Robredo said more than 300 corporations have offered to partner with her and committed their corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects to her program.

She said Dagupan was chosen for the program not because it is a poor city but because Mayor Belen Fernandez is considered one of the most active mayors in the entire country who can work well with the partner private corporations.

Dagupan City received 17 pledges from 17 private corporations after Fernandez made a presentation on the city’s anti-poverty program.

Three of these pledges were delivered on November 12 by the Inner Wheel Club of the Philippines, Canvas Philippines and the Seaoil Foundation.

Inner Wheel Club Philippines sponsored a feeding program for malnourished children of Barangays Carael and Calmay while Canvas Philippines donated volumes of story books for day care pupils to the Carael Elementary School library.

Seaoil Foundation assembled some 300 senior citizens from both Carael and Calmay for its Senior Wellness Program that assures adequate supply of maintenance medicines. It also committed to put up a Community Rehab Program for senior citizens suffering from arthritis, rheumatism and those who suffered strokes.

Mayor Fernandez thanked Vice President Robredo for bringing Angat Buhay program to Dagupan to help her constituents rise from poverty.

The other pledges are training programs for farmers. (Leonardo Micua)
