Four kapitans arrested in shabu raids

BAYAMBANG – Four barangay chairmen and a former municipal councilor were among those arrested in simultaneous anti-illegal drugs operations by combined police, army and anti-narcotics operatives in this town Thursday morning that yielded shabu, gun and ammunition.

Report from Supt. Jackie Candelario, deputy police director for operations of Pangasinan, said the arrested Barangay Chairmen were: Renato Soriano of Tamaro with two semi-bulto of shabu; George Balbin of Nalsian Sur with two sachets of shabu; Gildo Madronio of San Gabriel 2nd with three sachets of shabu; Eduardo Alcantara of Beleng with four sachets of shabu.

Also arrested were former Municipal Councilor Gerardo de Vera of Barangay Zone 1 with two sachets of shabu, one caliber 9 mm, 12 live bullets and magazine assembly for Ingram; Barangay Kagawad Mark Monderin of Malimpec with two sachets of shabu and Jose Sandy Gavino, a barangay tanod of Barangay Tamaro with two semi-bulto (pack) of shabu.

Barangay Captain Roderick Casingal is at large but seized in his house were three sachets of shabu, one sachet of suspected shabu residue and aluminum strip.

Two other raids were made involving another barangay captain and one suspected drug personality but yielded negative result.

Candelario said the raids were conducted based on 10 search warrants issued by Judge Ma. Ellen Aguilar of the Regional Trial Court Branch 70 in Burgos town for suspected drug personalities in different barangays here.

The suspects, however, claimed the confiscated sachets of shabu were only planted by the raiding teams.

Candelario said charges for violation of illegal drugs were readied by the police for filing Thursday but another case will be added for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition for De Vera.

The searches were conducted jointly by elements of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, Provincial Investigation Branch, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, Provincial Intelligence Division, Special Weapons and Tactics, Provincial Public Safety Company and the police stations in Lingayen, Binmaley, Bugallon, Bautista with the Bayambang Police Station as lead unit.
