Dagupan is region’s Most Improved Component City
THE Dagupan City government has been cited as the Most Improved Component City by the Regional Competitiveness Committee (RCC) of Region 1 after improving on its ranking in the nationwide competitiveness survey this year, particularly in infrastructure, government efficiency, and economic dynamism.
The committee composed of the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Interior and Local Government cited the city’s new ranking during the 2nd Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index Recognition Ceremony during the Rimat Ti Amianan Regional Trade Fair at CSI Atrium last November 20.
Through the efforts of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, Dagupan City topped in the overall ranking in Region 1 and climbed to number 15 (from 19 in 2015) this year in the Nationwide Overall Competitiveness Index under the Component Cities category.
In government efficiency, the city was number one in Region 1 this year and improved its nationwide ranking to 13th, from 19th place last year.
On economic dynamism, the city again topped the overall ranking in the region and is now 17th in the nationwide ranking, from 25th in 2015.
With the numerous infrastructure projects undertaken by Fernandez since she assumed as city mayor in 2013, the city was also rated highly in its infrastructure performance, from 76th place in 2013 to 28th place this year.
The city is now in second place overall standing in infrastructure in the region.
The awards were presented by Nelson N. Yuchongtian, private sector representative co-chair of the Regional Competitiveness Committee in Region 1; Julie J. Daquioag, Regional Director, DILG Region 1; and Florante O. Leal, Regional Director, DTI Region 1 and chairman of the RCC Region 1 to City Councilor Jeslito C. Seen in behalf of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez who was in Davao City attending the general assembly of the League of Cities of the Philippines.
“Our city continues to receive recognition and this is because of our hardworking and efficient department heads and City Hall employees who support our good governance,” said Fernandez. (CIO/JCB)
