Urdaneta police team earns Medalya ng Kagalingan

URDANETA CITY—The police team that gave chase and neutralized a criminal syndicate here were awarded Medalya ng Kagalingan during the Monday flag raising ceremony on Sept. 26 in the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO 1) grandstand in La Union.

P/Chief Supt. Gregorio Pimentel, acting-police regional director of PRO 1, presented the award to P/ Supt. Marceliano Desamito Jr, acting-police chief, and his men, for their “exemplary performance of duty as team leader and assault team respectively during an armed encounter with five members of carjacking syndicate in Barangay Nancalobasaan here on Sept. 11.”

Slain by Desamito and his men in a shootout were Jomar Delos Santos, Ronnie Chico, Arnold Bandara, Gilbert Tiomico and Nathaniel Dupo.

Seized from the suspects were four Colt caliber .45 pistols with magazines and 12 ammunition, four fired cartridge cases of caliber .45, three fired cartridge cases of caliber .9mm, four fired cartridge cases of caliber 5.56mm, two heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing shabu with a total weight of 1.431 grams, four identification cards, two police athletic uniforms, one police bull cap and several nylon cords.

The shootout ensued when the suspects on board a stolen silver Toyota Innova with plate number NRQ 496 ignored a police checkpoint along McArthur Highway.

The suspects sped off while firing at the pursuing police elements.

The syndicate reportedly rent vans and take off with it after killing the driver and dumping his body in a remote area.

The suspects were operating in Regions 1, 3, 4A, National Capital Region and Cordillera Administrative Region. (Tita Roces)
