Reward for Dayan’s arrest now P200,000
URBIZTONDO—The reward for information that would lead to the arrest of Ronnie Dayan, the controversial driver-bodyguard and alleged lover of Sen. Leila de Lima, is up by another P100,000 pledged by a concerned businessman to the police.
Senior Superintendent Ronald Lee, acting police provincial director of Pangasinan, said Wednesday this makes the reward for Dayan’s arrest to P200,000 as the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption earlier committed to give P100,000 after the House of Representatives’ Committee on Justice cited him for contempt and issued arrest warrant for snubbing a congressional inquiry on the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) drug trade.
Lee said the businessman is from Pangasinan.
The businessman who requested anonymity, said he merely wanted to help locate Dayan to know the truth about his participation in the drug trade in the NBP.
“It’s good if there would be more who would add for the reward so that our hunt for him would be faster,” he said.
He said their manhunt for Dayan is unrelenting although the raids conducted on his two houses and four others in Barangay Galarin this town on Oct. 25 yielded negative result for illegal guns.
“Nabulabog ang mga tao dun pero expected na nila yun,” Lee said. “This is possibly the reason why the raid yielded negative result,” he added.
He said Dayan has two cousins who are policemen and have legal advisers who may have alerted him on what was going to happen as authorities are out to arrest him.
Dayan’s wife and his relatives claimed they have no more communication with him. “But of course that’s their contention but we do not believe them,” Lee said.
“We will still look for him and we continuously coordinate with other units for his arrest,” Lee said.
He believes Dayan is no longer in Pangasinan because he can easily be identified after the extensive media exposure he got.
Lee said a record check of Dayan’s guns was made since he was reported to be brandishing high-powered firearms and fired them indiscriminately in the past when he still working with De Lima during her stint as Justice secretary.
“He has guns, both low-powered and high powered like M16, caliber.45 and 9 mm, but their licenses have expired,” he added.
“The police will not stop looking for him,” Chief Inspector Joshua Maximo, town police chief here said but admitted they are clueless on Dayan’s whereabouts at this time. (Tita Roces)
