THE 2016 Universities Colleges Athletic Association (UCAAP) varsity cage tilt definitely kicks off on September 6 at the Dr. Salvador T. Duque Fieldhouse (LNU gym) with a pair of explosive matches led by defending champions Lyceum Northwestern University Dukes against perennial title-contender Calasiao based Philippine College of Science and Technology Topnotch and to be spiced by AIE Green Eagles versus the PIMSAT Dragons.

“From five teams last year, we’re downed to four this season due to the ‘leave of absence’ of 2005 titleholder UPang Flames,” said LNU athletic director Nanoy Duque.

“But we’re still happy because the province chief executive Amado “Pogi” Espino III and Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez are heartily supporting the annual tilt and will grace the opening ceremony scheduled at 1:00 p.m.,” Duque added.

Duque also pointed out that the country’s well-known arbiter group the National Amateur Basketball Referees Organization (NABRO) Pangasinan-Dagupan City Chapter led by its president Jon Cancino will officiate the entire tournament. (Jesus Garcia, Jr.)
