Pangasinan Prov’l Chorale to compete in Nat’l Choral Contest

The Pangasinan Provincial Chorale (PPC), which is composed of provincial government employees, conducted a mini-concert at the Sison Auditorium on September 1 as their way of thanking the provincial government under the stewardship of Gov. Lingayen- – -The Pangasinan Provincial Chorale (PPC) is set to represent the province in the upcoming Government Choral Competition, one of the highlights of the 116th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, to be held on September 13 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Main Theater in Pasay City.

The PPC, composed of provincial government employees from different offices, is among the eight government agencies around the country which made it to the semi-final screening held from May 2 to June 17.

The eight semi-finalists are as follows: Dasmarinas City Teachers Chorale and the Pangasinan Provincial Chorale for Luzon; Guimaras Capitol Chorale for Visayas; Bayugan City Educators Chorale, Tagum City Chamber Chorale and Davao City Teachers Chorale for Mindanao; and the Bangko Sentral Singers and Pag-IBIG Fund Chorale for the National Capital Region.

As a way of thanksgiving for the full support accorded by the provincial government under the stewardship of Gov. Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III, the PPC held a mini-concert at the Sison Auditorium on September 1 featuring a selected repertoire of Pangasinan, Ilocano and Filipino songs.

In July, the PPC along with the Danggoan Pangasinan Cultural Dance Troupe, other performing arts group launched by the Espino administration, paid a courtesy call to Gov. Pogi wherein the latter thanked each one of the members for continuously doing their tasks in promoting local arts and culture and for bringing honor to the province.

The PPC was formed by then governor and now 5th district representative Amado T. Espino, Jr. purposely to help revive classical Pangasinan songs and to promote Pangasinan language via songs.

PPC was originally composed of 23 provincial government employees but has increased to almost 40 members since its launching.

Since their establishment, the PPC was able to perform in events in and outside the province mostly as front acts. The group was given an opportunity to perform in Jakarta, Indonesia for some series of singing engagements in seven Christian Communities /Churches there which was made possible by the Jakarta Theological Seminary under the directorship of Rev. Stephen Suleeman.

In 2014, the PPC placed 3rd runner-up in the CSC’s national choral competition. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
