THE Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese will hold a day of prayer and fasting for life on September 14.

In a circular letter Thursday of Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, he wrote, “Let us turn to the Lord of Life and beg for His mercy that we may look at the recent events in our society with His eyes, to love another with His love and act together through His Spirit dwelling in our hearts.”

Villegas will proclaim on Sept. 14, the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, as a Day of Prayer and Fasting in the archdiocese.

He invited all priests, men and women in consecrated life and the laity to abstain from meat, partake of only one meal instead of the usual meals and receive Holy Communion on Sept. 14.

The archdiocesan observance of the Day of Prayer for Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. with a concelebrated Mass at the Saint John the Evangelist Cathedral in Dagupan City.  The mass will be offered for the souls of those who died violently in the past months through police encounters, vigilante killings or accidental gunshots.

After the Mass, Villegas said a short street candle light procession of the Santo Entierro will be held and offered for the healing of our nation, he added. As the procession returns to the Cathedral, the bells will ring to invite our people to repent,” he added.

The bells in all Catholic churches will ring simultaneously at 8:00 p.m. from Sept. 14 to Sept. 21, the feast of Saint Matthew.

Also on Sept. 14, the parishes will be requested to put up “Huwag kang papatay” signage to remind the people of their Christian duty to observe the Fifth Commandment. (Tita Roces)
