Kapitan gunned down after resisting arrest

SAN CARLOS CITY—The barangay chairman of Tayambani who was listed the top drug personality in the city was shot dead at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, when he attempted to shoot it out with police operatives that came to serve the search warrant in his place.
P/Superintendent Nestor Cusi, acting chief of police, identified the fatality as Lamberto Villa, 41, leader of Dawes Drug Group and a high value target of the police in their anti-illegal drugs campaign.
Cusi said Villa resisted arrest and drew his firearm prompting the operating team to fire back in defense.
He said the search made in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) resulted in the recovery of thirty-five (35) pieces of heat sealed transparent plastic sachets containing shabu, two weighing scales, one Colt cal. 45 pistol without serial number, two caliber. 45 magazines, six pieces of live ammunition of cal. 38, two pieces of live ammunition of cal.5.56, one ammunition for cal .22 and assorted drug paraphernalia.
He was not only a high-value target in this city but of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the region, Cusi said.
He added Villa not only leads the Dawes Drug Group responsible for the distribution of illegal drugs in San Carlos City and adjacent towns but also the leader of a gun-for-hire group believed responsible for numerous unsolved killings in San Carlos City and the adjacent areas.
Two of Villa’s body guards were also arrested during the search.
Cyrus Gabis, 46, native of Calasiao, was arrested by the operatives after he was chanced upon inside Villa’s house premises and recovered from his possession was one Smith and Wesson caliber. 38 revolver without serial number loaded with six live ammunition in its cylinder.
Wilferigno Co, 30, resident of Rizal Street, Dagupan City, was also arrested in another kubo in the premises and recovered from his possession was a caliber. 38 revolver without serial number loaded with six live ammunition in its cylinder. (Tita Roces/Leonardo Micua)
