Danica buried, Dagupan PNP to arrest suspect
THE family of five-year-old Danica Mae Garcia continued to cry out for justice for her unwarranted death as they buried her at the public cemetery last Wednesday, August 31.
Relatives and friends of Danica, a kindergarten pupil at the East Central Integrated School in Barangay Mayombo carried placards demanding the arrest of her killers who evidently had intended to kill her grandfather suspected to be a drug pusher.
Fr. Edgar Calunod, who administered the final rites in a Mass at the St. Therese Church during her interment, also told the parishioners to continue to pray for justice for the little girl.
“Let us pray for justice for what happened to our sister Danica. Let us pray that those responsible for her death would surface and suffer the penalties for their gruesome acts,” Calunod said.
He urged Garcia’s family to accept her death “but continue to pray, to ask for justice.” He added that her death was a fruit of violence.
Two motorcycle-riding suspects out to kill her grandfather, Maximo Garcia, 54, barged into their house in Sitio Camanggaan, Barangay Mayombo here while she was preparing to go to school on that fateful day.
The elder Garcia, who was having lunch with his wife and three other grandchildren, was wounded but managed to escape. Danica Mae was hit in her nape by a stray bullet.
Four days earlier, Maximo surrendered to the police after he learned from friends that he was listed among the wanted drug personalities. His family claimed he had stopped taking drugs a year ago due to his health condition after he suffered stroke.
Meanwhile, a case for murder and frustrated murder had been filed against the suspect Bryan Macaayao of Barangay Bonuan Binloc who was identified by a witness.
Meanwhile, the Dagupan City Police Station headed by Acting Police Chief P/Superintendent Neil Miro, posted in its Facebook account that so far 768 drug personalities have surrendered since July 1 to Aug. 31. (Tita Roces)
