BDCC qualifies for 2016 MBC National Choral Competition

THE Balon Dagupan Children’s Choir (BDCC) qualified anew under the children’s category for the 2016 Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) National Choral Competition on December 6-10 at the Aliw Theater in Manila.
BDCC earned the admiration of the judges during the audition conducted at the CSI the City Mall atrium on September 17 with their rendition of their liturgical/inspirational piece, one pop/contemporary work and a regional/folk number.
BDCC was a semi-finalist in the same competition last year and went on to win in the Malaysian Children’s International Chorale Festival 2016. They received the Gold A Grade Award, the highest recognition being given to a choral group for outstanding performance; the Shah Alam Mayor Award for being the overall champion; and the Most Promising Choir (Overseas) Award in the competition.
Emmanuel “Noel” Sibayan, Station Manager of Love Radio Dagupan and chairman of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas-Pangasinan Chapter, said that during the semi-final rounds, one winner will be declared each evening with the four daily winners facing off in the grand finals at the Aliw Theater on December 10.
The participants will be judged according to tonal quality, harmony and diction; dynamics and technique including costumes and choreography; and audience impact.
“BDCC will receive a travel subsidy for the group’s fare. They are also guaranteed a take home prize of P7,500 with plaques of participation on the night they compete. Should they win on the semi-final night, they will receive another P15,000 and for the grand finals, the winning choirs will receive trophies and cash prizes,” said Sibayan.
The prizes are: fourth place, P15,000 and trophy; third place, 30,000 and trophy; second place, 50,000 and trophy; and champion, 100,000 and trophy.
“Special awards for Best Show Choir (P10,000) and Best Original Arrangement for a Novelty Number (P10,000) will have also be given during the grand finals,” said Sibayan. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
