SP lauds young Mesina for winning bronze

LINGAYEN– The provincial board approved a resolution Monday congratulating Narayana Rsi Das Mesina of Calasiao for winning a bronze medal in the recently concluded 8th World Wado Ryu championship in Tokyo, Japan.

Narayana, son of Councilor Mahadeva Das Mesina and wife Aileen, brought home bronze medal in kumite sparring between 12-15 years old category participated in by 65 players from different countries last July 28 to Aug. 2.

“The sterling performance of Narayana Rsi Das Mesina at an early age is an inspiration and model of the youth in the province,” the resolution, authored jointly by Board Members Generoso Tulagan Jr and Jeanne Jinky Zaplan, said.

In an earlier interview with The PUNCH, Narayana (nicknamed Narayan) said he is very happy every time he is able to give recognition to the country.

He has hauled in so far more than 50 medals of which are more than 20 gold, since he joined local invitational competitions. He won bronze in an earlier competition in Bangkok.

Mesina’s name is derived from a deity’s name in Hare Krishna, a Hindu religious movement which he and his family belong to.

Narayan said he devotes two hours daily for his practice with overtime of up to four hours and still manages time for studies.

He gets an average grade of 89 in his academic record. He said his karate mentor would not let anyone with poor grades to train under him.
