PHO places 8 towns, 2 cities on dengue watch

LINGAYEN—The Provincial Health Office has placed eight towns and two cities under dengue-watch.

In dengue surveillance updates dated Aug. 1, signed by Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman, provincial health officer, listed the towns of Asingan, Pozorrubio, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Calasiao, San Fabian, Mangaldan, Sta. Maria and the cities of San Carlos and Alaminos as having most number of dengue cases.

Data showed the following dengue cases listed under the PHO watchlist: Asingan (98), Pozorrubio (62), Malasiqui (54), Bayambang (45), San Carlos City (45), Calasiao (44), San Fabian (43), Mangaldan (37), Alaminos City (36) and Sta. Maria (35).

One died due to dengue in each of the following areas this year: Mabini (an 11-year old gril), Calasiao (seven- month old girl), Binalonan (two-year-old girl), Urdaneta City (six-year-old girl), Umingan (53-year-old male) and Dagupan City (seven-year-old girl).

Ages of other cases ranged from seven months old to 94 years old.

Most commonly affected was 10 to 14 years old age group with 255 cases.

Majority of dengue cases were males with 606.

However, cases reported this year are still lower than those reported last year over the same period.

From January 1 to August 1, about 1,170 dengue cases have been reported based on data received from government and private hospitals including the Region 1 Medical Center.

Last year covering the same period, there were 1,284 dengue cases.

Deaths due to dengue this year totaled six while last year of the same period, there were nine. (Tita Roces)
