Perez-Galicia wins anew as PCL prexy

THE incumbent president of the Philippine Councilors’ League (Pangasinan chapter) who sits as an ex-officio member of the provincial board was re-elected for a fresh mandate Wednesday night in a hotly-contested election held at the Stadia in Dagupan City.
Board Member Sheila Marie Perez-Galicia, a councilor of San Manuel town this province, won her second term garnering 253 votes over her lone opponent, Lingayen Municipal Councilor Juday Vargas who got 168 votes.
Galicia, daughter of San Manuel Vice Mayor Salvador Perez, who was the longest serving mayor in their town from 1988 until 2010, will sit again as board member of Pangasinan’s Sangguniang Panlalawigan as a sectoral representative.
Her father said this is a sweet victory and a show of unity among local officials in Pangasinan who rallied behind her daughter whose opponent Vargas was openly and strongly supported by Reps. Leopoldo Bataoil and Amado Espino Jr. of the second and fifth districts respectively.
The elder Perez thanked their supporters for the resounding success of his daughter’s team.
Galicia’s slate got 10 of the15 seats in the PCL (Pangasinan chapter) elected by councilors from three cities and 44 municipalities in Pangasinan.
Other elected PCL officers are: Carol Dizon-Sison of Alaminos City (vice president), Margielou Orange Humilde-Verzosa of Alaminos City (secretary general), Ellen Alipio of Binmaley (Treasurer), Manny Datuin of Calasiao (Auditor), Ma. Andrea Verzosa-Meneses of Lingayen (PRO), Keri Domantay of Malasiqui (Business Manager). Board of Directors are: Charlie Dave Rosete of Agno, Nicholi Jan Louie Sison of Villasis, Ramon Bautista Jr. of Manaoag, Joshua Viray of Asingan, Patrick Revita of Rosales, Alvin Bravo of San Nicolas, Noel Bautista of Binalonan and Vivien Peria of Mapandan.
Councilors in Dagupan City do not participate in the PCL (Pangasinan chapter) elections for being an independent city.
But they also held their separate election where they elected City Councilor Jose Netu M. Tamayo as new president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Dagupan City Chapter succeeding City Councilor Maybelyn Rose dela Cruz-Fernandez on August 9 at Jam Sweet Jam Restaurant. (Tita Roces)
