LINGAYEN – Striving to expand his predecessor’s projects for the province’s youth, Gov. Amado I. Espino, III plans to develop a program that will further develop the youth’s talents in performing arts and sports.

While details for the tie-up with Department of Education (DepEd) is are still being finalized, the provincial chief executive hinted on the possible inclusion of the best and competitive elementary and secondary students in Dangoan Pangasinan, a cultural dance troupe composed of provincial government employees that was launched under his predecessor’s administration.

To further strengthen sports development, Gov. Espino will fulfill the dream of his father and predecessor, Rep. Amado Espino Jr., – to build a sports academy that will house and train the best athletes from various towns and cities in the province.

The sports academy, according to the governor, is on top of other sports activities sustained by the provincial government which benefit the young sports talents, to include the staging of the series of chess clinics and tournaments of the Pangasinan Chess Festival; Pabosking ed Gulpo, triathlon and beach volleybelle competition during Pista’y Dayat, to name a few.

Gov.  Espino shared his twin plans with DepEd – Pangasinan I executives who paid him a courtesy call last week.

DepEd Pangasinan I Schools Division Superintendent Ma. Celia Fernandez readily expressed her support saying that the twin cultural and sports programs of Governor ‘Pogi’ will benefit the DepEd’s K-12 curriculum, particularly its Special Program for the Arts (SPA) in junior high and the Arts and Design and Sports track for senior high.

Malaki ang magiging tulong nito sa mga mag-aaral natin para mas mahasa pa ang kani-kanilang mga kahusayan,” Dr. Fernandez said.

Mr. Espino shared his plans also to DepEd officials of Pangasinan Division II which covers the elementary, secondary and integrated schools from 4th to 6th districts.

The provincial administration has also formed ‘Team Pangasinan’ to serve as the official delegation of the province to the Batang Pinoy. (GNO_PIO)
