Guv Pogi assures rice supply during calamities
LINGAYEN – The provincial government is now assured of rice supply for distribution during relief operations.
Gov. Amado Espino III will soon sign memorandum of agreement with the National Food Authority (NFA) for its Rice Loan program that will enable the provincial government to avail of at anytime for its relief operations particularly when a state of calamity is declared.
Board Member Liberato Villegas, author of the resolution authorizing the governor to enter into an agreement, said could also be used to stock on rice in anticipation of calamities when transportation of goods could be difficult or worse, impossible to do due to the presence of natural hazards.
He said the program was conceptualized to cushion the impact of disasters on Pangasinenses.
Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr. said that this measure will also help NFA to distribute its stored rice supply, updating the life span and quality of the commodity in storage. (RML_PIO)
