LAST Thursday, August 25, a phone thief was caught and arrested for stealing a cellphone of a college student from inside her backpack.

The suspect, Joseph Asil, 35 years old and a resident of Brgy. Malasin Pozorrubio, was promptly arrested by PO2 Conrado L Borja and PO1 Arnulfo G Gayaga of the Dagupan police after the victim and her friends called for help.

The student was inside the CSI Mall on Galvan St. when the suspect followed her and took time to steal the phone inside her backpack while she was busy with her friends. One of her companions saw the suspect dig into the backpack and the group shouted for help.

However, when the police caught up with him the Blackberry phone was no longer in Asil’s possession. Instead one (1) heat sealed of transparent plastic of sachet of alleged suspected shabu was found in his pocket.

Police believe the stolen phone was already passed on to a cohort. A case for theft and violation of RA 9165 is now being readied for filing in court against the suspect. (DCPS)
