Security guard untrained in gun-handling shoots employee

A NINETEEN-year old security guard of a mall in Lingayen town is now facing a case of frustrated homicide and illegal possession of firearm and ammunitions after he accidentally shot and wounded a bagger of a supermarket inside the mall.

P/Superintendent Jackson Seguin, Chief of Police in Lingayen, identified the suspect as one Ricardo Casayuran y Balala, 19, security guard of Sun Plaza Savewise Supermarket, and a resident of Barangay Carayacan, San Quintin. While the victim was identified as Darwin Bisonoya, 24, resident of Panfilo Street West, Poblacion Lingayen.

Initial police investigation showed Casayuran and Bisonoya were both in the baggage counter in the third floor and having a conversation when Casayuran decided to remove the bullets of his issued firearm, a caliber 38 revolver when he accidentally pulled the trigger.

Bisonoya was hit at the right shoulder and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect, who admitted to the authorities that he had no training in gun handling or gun safety, voluntarily surrendered to the responding team of Lingayen Police.

Seguin said, the security agency of Casayuran is also liable for the incident since security guards are required to gun safety training before acquiring a Security License. (Nora Dominguez)
