PANGASINENSES (businessmen, politicians, law enforcers and the youth) raved over President Rodrigo Duterte’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Governor Amado ‘Pogi Espino III said the SONA was very unique and the delivery was natural and practical. “It was appealing to young executives like me. Sasabihin niya na ito ang problema at ito ang solusyon. Walang paliguy-ligoy, direct to the point.”

Young Councilor Aldrin Soriano of Mangaldan town said “The challenge the President has narrated in his first SONA with barely a month in office and also the trust rating on him by the Filipinos give us high hopes on how he could deliver as the highest leader of the country.”

Representative Leopoldo Bataoil of Pangasinan’s Second District said the SONA was delivered in a manner understood by all. “There was no let-up, no mercy and no toleration on our campaign against illegal drugs and other crimes. Internal security has taken a different shift thru the declaration of unilateral ceasefire… Human Right is defined in a level playing field that will put the interest of the nation and the majority above the interest of a few.”

Acting provincial director of the Pangasinan Police, P/Sr. Supt. Ronald Lee said “Natutuwa kami sa full support niya sa operations at lalong nagkaroon ng high morale ang aming kapulisan.”

Howard Chua Cham, president of the Pangasinan Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (PMSMED) Council said the SONA is very promising in a fresh way compared to the previous first SONAs of newly-elected presidents. “He has good connection particularly to the needs of the common man and yet still retaining his focus on common sense matters, on the Kyoto protocol and climate change issues and also the need of everyone for a stable and safe working environment.”

Abono Partylist Rep. Conrad Estrella expressed confidence that the President will deliver on his promises and vision for the country.

Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia said: “I appreciate his mention of culture and how it ought to be valued and respected by the people; his recognition of agriculture and tourism as drivers of economic growth, on post-harvest facilities for the farmers so they may increase their income capabilities, and better access and amenities for travel in our main gateways.”

Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III of Land Transportation Office: “Very passionate and it comes from the heart of the President. You can easily relate to his message. No such passionate speech was ever seen by me from the past presidents.”

Sison Mayor Danilo Uy: “Ok naman. Practical siya.”

Dagupan Councior Joey Netu Tamayo: “What’s unmistakable is the finding of the executive that the malady of drugs is a threat to security of the state.”

Radyo ng Bayan-Tayug Station Manager Romy Umipig was elated by the announcement of plans to upgrade facilities of the government radio and TV station while Radyo ng Bayan–Dagupan Station Manager Bernie Errasquin said: “Maliwanag na solusyon sa mga nangungunang problema sa ating bansa ang inilahad ni Pangulong Duterte.”

Pangasinan State University college Instructor Nova Arquillano said “the SONA is non- traditional, no blaming sa past administration and with ad libs. The plans he cited are measurable…pero parang walang topic regarding water, renewable energy and education of k-12 program.”

Student Jaypee Timbaga said: “Sa administrasyon na ito, makikita natin na transparent ang gobyerno.” (Johanne Macob /VHS_PIA Pangasinan)
