NOVEL WALK-FOR-A-CAUSE

MANGALDAN— A walk-for-a-cause was recently held in the town. But it was not your usual ‘cause’ and the participants were not the usual crowd.

The Mangaldan police organized the Lakad-Kontra-Droga last Sunday and the participants were the police themselves, barangay officials and the self-confessed drug pushers and users who surrendered!

P/Supt. Benjamin Ariola, police chief here, said the ‘walk’, part of the town’s massive anti-illegal drugs campaign plan: Project Double Barrel, Oplan Tokhang, was organized to advise residents to stay away from drugs and to report illegal-drug activities in their barangays.

The participants carried placards that read: “Maki-isa, Sumama, Itakwil ang Droga”, “Illegal Drugs Can Kill, Stop Using it”,  “Say Yes to Life, Say No to Drugs”.

The more than 70 participants walked through the business district here, the public market, Mangaldan National High School, and the vicinity of the closed rural bank.

Ariola said they also held dialogue with the surrendered drug personalities from different barangays and reminded them about their responsibilities and the penalties for violating the country’s laws. (Tita Roces)
