URDANETA CITY—Self-confessed drug users and pushers who surrendered last week were joined by their families, the police and barangay officials in physical fitness activities and boodle fight to help strengthen their resolve to turn their backs on illegal drugs.

P/Supt. Jeff Fanged, city police chief, said this is a weekly activity in different barangays, for physical and mental health of the communities.

Their activities range from “Pulis at mamamayan, do the move. Let us Groove!” “Agsala Urdaneta.” “Takbo Para sa Pagbabago” to “Shoot that ball, do games not drug.”

Fanged said the activities were requested by the drug surrenderees themselves.

They launched the program on July 26 in Barangay Nancamaliran East here.

After enjoying their exercise, the participants had their boodle fight of vegetables, eggs and dried fish topped with tomatoes and fish sauce.

Concerned citizens helped to defray the expenses, Fanged said.

As of latest count, about 1,191 have surrendered to the police, he added.

Fanged said he expects the barangays to adopt their own rehabilitation programs for the drug surrenderees in their respective areas. (Tita Roces)
