LINGAYEN—“I personally support the no nonsense, no mercy, no toleration campaign against illegal drugs of the President.”

This was asserted by Second District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil in an interview when asked of his views, as a former police general and now a lawmaker, on the administration’s fight versus illegal drugs.

On the reported deaths of suspected drug pushers attributed to intensified police operations in their drug operations, Bataoil said, police officers have been trained on the rules of engagement.

He said, “I was a commander myself, and what we promoted sa ating mga kapulisan ay iyung police operational procedures, particularly sa rules of engagement when they operate.”

He said the mission is always to neutralize or disarm the suspect so they can be tried in court but there are instances when suspects shoot it out, and the police have no choice but to response accordingly.

He added, he prefers to see the law enforcers alive than to see them dead while the suspects live.

“My final guidance to them (police officers) is, for as long as you can defend your actions on the ground even in Plaza Miranda, go on,” he said.

Meanwhile, the congressman also hailed the declaration of unilateral ceasefire with the CPP-NPA “thereby preventing further loss of lives.” (Johanne Macob)
