SOME 1,003 young boys were circumcised while 190 other patients underwent minor operations for free at the West Central 1 Elementary School on May 28 – 29 under the “Alagang Balon Dagupan” of Mayor Belen T. Fernandez in partnership with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Medical Mission Inc.

The UST Medical Mission has been working with Fernandez when she was still the vice mayor in undertaking free medical mission in the city that included free eye screening and operation for senior citizens.

In those medical mission, the UST doctors conducted major and minor surgical operations for indigent Dagupeños with ob-gyne problems like myoma, breast mass, goiter and inguinal hernia; and excision of cyst, lipoma, tophi, superficial benign tumor and moles removal; and circumcision.

“My heartfelt thanks to the UST doctors, nurses and medical staff for holding another successful medical mission in Dagupan,” said Fernandez.

The UST medical team was headed by Dr. William L. Olalia along with Dr. Bernardo M. Cuevas and Dr. Edgardo T. Orlino and 26 doctors, 15 medical interns and 10 nurses.

“Our consultations in the 31 barangays helped a lot. We were able to help these indigent Dagupeños who needed the medical operations. Thank you again my fellow Dagupenos for my 2nd term,” she added.

Fernandez also thanked other partners of the city in its “Alagang Balon Dagupan”, namely the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society of Region 1 through its founding president Betha Fe. M. Castillo; the Philippine Medical Society – Pangasinan Chapter; and the Philippine Pediatrics Society – Pangasinan Chapter who performed free breast and led cervical cancer forum, Buntis Day and Children’s Congress.

Alagang Balon Dagupan has also enrolled almost 15,000 beneficiaries under the PhilHealth program and has been recognized as the best forerunner in sponsored program implementation under the city category by PhilHealth Region 1. (JCB_CIO)
