BALIK ESKWELA

LINGAYEN—Attendance in public schools in Pangasinan 1 Schools Division for the Balik Eskwela opening registered a very high rate as projected.

This was the assessment of Dr. Maria Celia Junio-Fernandez, schools division superintendent, who said only two or three students were absent, unlike in previous years when many opted to stay out on the first day.

She added classes started smoothly because Brigada Eskwela prepared the classroom for it.

“I am very strict with that. First day is first day of classes,” she said despite the fact that only 38 percent of the 607 classrooms delivered to the division were finished.

As early as April, her division had prepared contingency plans for the expected classroom shortage that included class shifting, use of available classrooms in nearby elementary schools, among others.

Meanwhile, Education Program supervisor Jesusa Macam of San Carlos City Schools Division said all personnel in the office, including their superintendent and assistant superintendent, who closely monitored the first day and noticed very high number of students that went back to school yesterday.

Free school supplies were distributed to pupils of kindergarten, Grades 1 and 7 donated to the Division office personnel.

She appealed for more donations so more poor students in the barangays could be assisted. (Tita Roces)
