LINGAYEN— The newly elected young mayor, who ended the 15-year reign of a father-and-son tandem in Calasiao town, vowed a transparent government.

The town’s new mayor, 27-year-old Joseph Arman Bauzon, told a media forum at the President Hotel last week that he will fulfill his campaign promise to make transparency the hallmark of his administration.

“No one knew how big the (town’s) budget was, how big the loan was, or how the loan was used,” Bauzon said to underscore his pledge.

He said he will start with a bulletin board at the municipal hall to show the public all the projects, all the expenses, all the transactions of the town.

Bauzon, who was with the minority as councilor, disclosed that the existing amount yet to be paid by the municipal government to the Land Bank of the Philippines still amounts to P110 million.

The said amount was the balance from the two loans amounting P65 million for the town hall construction; and P75 million, of which P55 million was used for the completion of the sports complex, P11 million was spent for the street lights project along Brgy. Poblacion, and P9 million was a counterpart for the new slaughterhouse, said Bauzon.

He said while he will look into irregularities committed by previous administration, he will focus on what he can do in his three-year mandate.

“The plan is there, the vision is there, the problem will be the funding,” he noted.

The mayor-elect revealed his plan to do tax-mapping to increase the town’s revenues.

At 19 years old, Bauzon served as the youngest member of the Association of Barangay Captains in 2007.

When asked of his comment about his victory at the polls against his uncle and incumbent vice mayor Roy Macanlalay, Bauzon said “I think the townspeople of Calasiao wanted change.” (Johanne R. Macob)
